First Aid:

First aid is given to a person in case of emergency, mainly to save his life and to assist his recovery or to lessen his difficulties until the service of a doctor is obtained is usually known as first aid.
  • First is developed as a result of wars, knowledge of first aid to the injured is widespread and its further developments and teaching is enforced by St. Andrews Ambulance Society, British Red Cross Society, and St. Andrews Ambulance association.
  • The term first aid is used for repair or treatment given in case of sudden accident, illness, a mechanical breakdown which will allow work to be continued or transportation to a more suitable place where full-scale remedies can be applied.


Electric Shock:

Electric Shock accident occurs if a person unknowingly or knowingly comes in contact with the electric current of a device.
  • If the victim is in contact with electricity use non-conductor objects like a dry stick, dry gloves, rolled-up newspaper to pull him away from the source of current as soon as possible.
  • If you notice the victim's breathing stoppage then immediately mouth-to-mouth artificial breathe should be given.
  • If the victim is breathing normally then keep their body warm in a half-sitting position until medical help arrives.


Cuts And Wounds:

Cuts and wounds may be caused due to many incidents like accidents, falling on a rough floor, sharp objects like a pin, blade, cutter, knife, etc.
  • For small scratches and cuts, clean the wounds using sterile clothes dipped in soapy, warm water followed by plain warm water and cover with sterile cloth gauze.
  • Generally, if the cut or wound is Small then a bandaid will treat well.
  • Gently squeeze the puncture wound, so as to enhance bleeding and dislodge bacteria and dirt from your wound.
  • If you notice, the wound is very dirty and if it is a deep puncture caused by sharp objects or firecrackers, the injured victim should be given TT (Tetanus Toxoid) injection under the guidance of a doctor, to prevent tetanus Infections.


Chemical Burns:

Chemical burns are caused due to strong acids and alkalis to which a person may be exposed.
  • If the victim is suffering from chemical burns, immediately flood the burn with flowing water.
  • Remove the clothing near the burn to avoid rising the burn.
  • If alkali splashes into the eye, wash the eye with diluted vinegar or large quantities of water.
  • Apply pad and bandage to the burn and take the victim to the doctor.


Fractures:

Fractures refer to the breaking of a bone and ( compound or open fracture) puncture of the skin due to the breaking of bones.
  • If a compound fracture (puncture of skin over the fracture) occurs, keep a sterile cloth gauze over the wound and call a doctor immediately.
  • If the back or neck of the victim is suspected to be injured then keep the victim flat. Call a doctor immediately if possible or else move the patient to a flat position on a stretcher and take them to the hospital.


Respiratory Failure:

Respiratory Failure may be caused due to carbon monoxide poisoning. 
  • As carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless gas, the victim could not notice when they come in contact with it. 
  • The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are dizziness, headache, and lower breathing, soon causing unconsciousness due to lack of oxygen in the blood and stops breathing.
  • The lips and skin may turn bright red.
  • If you notice stoppage or irregularity in the victim's breathing, immediately begin to give artificial respiration or CPR.
  • A person with carbon monoxide poisoning may die due to drowning (suffocation underwater) if fell in the water. 


Food Poisoning:

Poison is a substance, which has the capacity to cause injury to health and insufficient dosage even leads to death. Food poisoning is caused if the food is contaminated with bacteria, toxins, viruses, etc.
  • The first aid given to the patient is diluting the poison immediately with water or baking soda water. 
  • Immediately wash eyes and face and take the victim to the nearest hospital.
  • Always save the container and any remains of the food for identification and specific treatment.


Snake Bite:

Most of the snakes are nonpoisonous, but some snakes have poison that affects the body badly.
  • King Cobra's venom affects the nervous system and the Viper's venom affects the circulatory system.
  • The bites of most poisonous snakes cause immediate swelling and discoloration around the wound.
  • In the case of snakebite, allow the victim to sit comfortably and completely stop the movements of the body.
  • Make the victim drink hit or warm drinks like coffee, tea, etc.
  • If the victim is wearing tight objects around the wound, then make them remove such objects.


Scalds And Burns:

Scalds are caused due to wet heat whereas burns are caused due to dry heat. Superficial burns cause reddening of the skin and the formation of blisters.
  • Skin exposed to burn should be covered with a sterile dressing.
  • Corrosive chemicals also cause burns and they should be treated immediately. The first aid is to pour cold water on the affected area
  • If the eye burns, immediately transfer the victim to the nearest ophthalmic hospital.
