Some Animal Diseases Caused By Bacteria:
1. Calf Diphtheria:
Calf Diphtheria (Necrobacillosis) is a bacterial disease caused by the bacteria Fusobacterium necrophoryum.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the mouth.
- Affected pharynx and larynx.
- Ulcers in the mouth.
- High fever.
- Unable to swallow.
Treatment:
- Sulphathiazol injections are given.
- Sulphamidine drug is used.
2. Tuberculosis:
Tuberculosis is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is generally found in cows, birds, buffaloes and reptiles.
Symptoms:
- Continuous diarrhoea.
- Supra mammary lymph nodes enlarge.
- Continuous high fever.
- Intestine ruptures from inside.
- Milk gets diluted with many tubercle bacilli.
- Dry husky cough.
Treatment:
- Tuberculosis vaccine with BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin) is used.
3. Anthrax:
Anthrax is a bacterial disease caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. It usually affects all cattle such as camels, elephants, cats, sheep, goats, dogs, donkeys, horse etc.
Symptoms:
- Bloody diarrhoea.
- Acute pain in the body.
- The animal body shows laziness.
- High fever.
- Swelling in the neck region.
- Foaming discharge from nostrils and mouth.
Treatment:
- Cattle surrounding should be cleaned thoroughly.
- Anthrax spare vaccine to animals is used.
- Animal's dead body and disposals of the diseased animal should be either burnt or buried.
4. Haemorrhage Septicemia:
It is a bacterial disease caused by a special type of bacillus named Pasteurella multocido, coccobacillus. It usually affects cattle, goats, buffaloes, etc.
Symptoms:
- The animal body shows laziness.
- The neck of the animal bends downward.
- Tongue enlarges dark in colour.
- Acute enteritis with diarrhoea.
- High fever.
- Difficulty in swallowing.
- Pneumonia like symptoms is seen.
- Inflammation of neck and head region
Treatment:
- Vaccination should be done before the raining season.
- Penicillin and sulphonamide are given to the diseased animal in an early stage.
Some Animal Diseases Caused By Virus:
1. Rabies:
Rabies is a viral disease caused by virus rabies. It usually affects dogs, calves, cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, horse, etc.
Symptoms:
- A symptom can be notified after 14-90 days of the bite.
- Fever.
- Headache.
- Abnormal behaviour.
- Muscle spasms.
- Saliva dripping from the mouth.
- Paralytic attack on the neck region.
- Abnormal irritation.
- Mental illness.
Treatment:
- The wound must be cleaned and washed with a soap solution.
- Concentrated nitric acid should be coated at the wound.
- Injection of antibiotic vaccination contains 5-25% suspension of the brain and spinal cord of sheep artificially injected with a laboratory fixed virus treated with 0.5% phenol.
2. Foot And Mouth Disease:
Also known as FMD is a viral disease caused by the virus Aphthovirus. It is generally seen in affected animals like goats, sheep, buffaloes, cows, horses, etc.
Symptoms:
- High fever.
- Small blisters are seen on the skin, toes, mammary glands, face, etc.
- Ulcers in the mouth.
- Sore throat.
- Loss of appetite.
- The animal body shows laziness.
Treatment:
- The antiseptic ointment is used on the blisters and Wounds.
- The concerned vaccine is used in the form of injections.
- Coaltar and copper sulphate in the ratio of 5:1 is used in the lesioned feet.
3. Rinderpest (cattle plague):
It is a viral disease caused by a virus of the family Paramyxoviridae. It usually affects cows, sheep, hens, pigs, buffaloes and goats.
Symptoms:
- Loss of appetite.
- Conjunctive eyes become congested.
- Dryness of muzzle.
- The animal becomes dull.
- Temperature increases from 104°F to 106°F.
- Constipation.
Treatment:
- Rinderpest vaccine.
- Anti-rinderpest serum.
4. Smallpox:
Smallpox is a viral disease caused by the virus variola virus. It is generally seen in goats, cows, hens, buffaloes, etc.
Symptoms:
- Animal shows laziness.
- High fever.
- Headache.
- Skin rash.
- Loss of appetite.
- Vomiting.
- Blisters on skin.
- Small pustules are seen on the wattles and comb in cocks and hens.
Treatment:
- No vaccine exists for smallpox.
- Pain killers are prescribed.
- Some antibiotics are given at initially 2-4 days to prevent its progress.
