  • RNA or DNA (Nucleic Acid) Vaccine: In this type of vaccine, the vaccine provides instruction to our immune cells to provide its own protein units that help to increase immunity.
  • Viral Vector Vaccine: This type of vaccine uses a virus that will not cause harm to our body. This vaccine also provides instructions to our cells to produce antigens to increase immunity.

Doses Of Vaccine:

Coronavirus vaccine mainly has two doses:

Dose 1 followed by dose 2 after 28 days.

How does It Work:

  • The vaccine helps the body to boost immunity to fight against covid-19.
  • The body starts developing immunity after 15-20 days of the second dose or final dose.
  • It works well when you are in a healthy condition.

The procedure of vaccination is strictly followed by few steps as mentioned below:

  • The individual to be vaccinated is first made to note his heart/ pulse rate and body temperature by the vaccination officer. Normal body temperature ranges between 36.1 C-37.2 C (97 F- 99 F) and for pulse rate ranges between 60-100 beats per minute.
  • Then the person has to show his identity card for the purpose of verification of name, id number, age, etc.
  • Then the individual is asked about his health issues, whether they have diabetes, blood pressure, fever, pregnancy, or some other issues.
  • Then the individual is verified in the digital system about their participation in vaccination.
  • After completing their verification, the individual is sent to the place of vaccination.
  • The nursing staff firstly applies alcohol as a disinfectant at the site to be injected.
  • The person is then vaccinated by administrating 1 ml of coronavirus vaccine intramuscularly at the site of the upper arm.
  • After the injection is completed, the individual is kept under observation for 30 minutes to observe any side effects if occur.
  • After 30 minutes of vaccination, the person is allowed to leave.


Side Effects:

  • Headache
  • Illness
  • Pain in the vaccinated arm
  • Redness at the injected site
  • Nausea
  • Chills
  • Pain at the site of injection
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Joint pain
  • Fever
  • Allergic reactions
  • Swelling at the injected site

Remedies For Side Effects:

  • Have proper sleep.
  • Take pain killer tablets like paracetamol for body pains and aches.
  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
  • Reduce heavy pressure on your body muscle.
  • Heat more of healthy foods.
  • Quit gym or weight lifting for 2-3 days.
  • For anaphylaxis allergic symptoms, the individual should be immediately given epinephrine (1 mg/ml aqueous solution).


Who Should Take Covid-19 Vaccine:

  • Covid-19 patients after four weeks of their symptoms can be vaccinated for dose 1.
  • Individuals with mild allergic reactions.
  • Individuals of 16 years and above.


Who Should Not Take Covid-19 Vaccine:

  • Pregnant Women
  • Diabetic Patient
  • Immune-Deficient patient
  • Individual With Severe Allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Breastfeeding Women
  • Children below 16 years, etc.


When Did Covid-19 Vaccination Start In India:

Vaccination was started in India on January 16, 2021.

  • The first phase of the vaccination from January 16 was provided to healthcare works, medical-related students, and frontline workers.
  • The second phase of the vaccination from March is to provide vaccination to the February to the people above 60 years and people above 45 years with medical conditions of having more than two diseases.
  • The third phase of covid-19 vaccination starts from May 1st to all the people above 18 years to 45 years of age.
